Obbligato is NEC's enterprise PLM suite, introduced in 1995 and long one of the most widely installed PLM systems in Japan. Its core is an integrated BOM that links design, engineering, and manufacturing bills of material so that specifications, drawings, and part data flow from 3D CAD into production and ERP. Around that core it provides document and drawing management, engineering change and configuration control, product cost management and cost simulation, project management, and product-contained chemical substance management for RoHS, REACH, chemSHERPA, and conflict-minerals reporting. Obbligato is delivered on-premise or as Obbligato for SaaS, and is configurable without programming, which makes it common in engineer-to-order and high-variant manufacturing.
